We’ve spoken before about the benefits of Bamboo in clothing, as our best-selling Original and Crew tops contain 90% Bamboo in their fabric. A lot of people, when we tell them about our tops being made of mostly Bamboo, automatically think of the softness of the tops and how this is great for those with sensory needs related to clothing. Whilst this is true, and a huge positive for those with this need, there are several other amazing qualities of Bamboo fabric that can have a positive impact on so many other people with different clothing needs.

As we’re based in Australia and it’s currently the middle of summer, we’ve been wearing our Bamboo tops non-stop. For this reason, we thought we’d take you through the many benefits of Bamboo clothing and how it can be particularly helpful during this hot weather.

We’ll start with the most obvious feature first, it’s softness and comfort. Bamboo fabric is naturally soft and smooth, often compared to silk or cashmere. This makes it ideal for sensitive skin and comfortable to wear. For those hot days where everything just feels like a straight jacket to wear, having soft and comfortable clothing can make all the difference to your mood.

Aside from the softness, another feature of the clothing being more comfortable is the breathability that Bamboo has. Bamboo fibres allow for better airflow, making the fabric breathable. It helps regulate body temperature, keeping you cool in summer and warm in winter. This means you don’t have to worry about sweat-patches and actually, even if you did still sweat, another unique property of Bamboo is antimicrobial properties. Bamboo contains a natural bio-agent called "bamboo kun," which resists the growth of bacteria and fungi. This helps reduce odours and makes the fabric more hygienic. On top of this, Bamboo fabric is highly absorbent and wicks moisture away from the skin, helping to keep you dry throughout the day. As opposed to clothing that has synthetic fibres (such as Polyester), which often results in them sticking to you and having to wash after wearing them for one hot day, Bamboo stays light and fresh throughout the warmer weather.

Although a lot of people prefer to wear less during the hot weather, many individuals like to cover up and protect their skin from the harsh sunlight during the summer months. Bamboo is fantastic for this as it offers some degree of UV protection. Exposing sensitive skin to harsh UV rays can also be triggering for some. I have been living in our long sleeve original tops throughout summer to keep the eczema on my arms from getting exposed. Apart from the above reasons, I can wear these long sleeve tops on my sensitive skin because Bamboo is hypoallergenic. Due to its natural fibres and lack of harsh chemicals in processing (in certain production methods), Bamboo fabric is less likely to cause allergic reactions, making it great for people like me with allergies or sensitive skin.

There are a bunch of other beneficial features of Bamboo clothing, such as being eco-friendly and durable. However, we think the many great details discussed above are frequently overlooked, causing many to miss out on clothing that can make them feel good far beyond just being soft to feel. In this hot weather, comfort is key, and for those that may have additional dressing needs such as sensitive skin or the inability to regulate their temperature, wearing clothing that meet those needs can be groundbreaking.
